Where Advocacy Meets Action
Advocacy in Action - 2025
Since the start of 2025, our advocacy efforts reached new heights through collaboration, education, and impactful legislative work. From the halls of justice to community gatherings and the Texas State Capitol, our team worked tirelessly to support survivors, uplift communities, and shape policies that protect and empower. We didn't simply speak, we were heard. This year, from courtrooms to campuses, legislative halls to sacred gatherings, has been a testament to the power of unified voices rising for justice, dignity, and healing. Each moment was a spark in a greater flame of transformation. Here's how we made a difference together.
January: Honoring Justice and Partnerships
The year began with inspiration as we witnessed the oath-taking of Honorable J. Christian Becerra as Judge of the 434th District Court in Fort Bend County. Our presence at this event underscored our ongoing partnership with local leaders who champion justice and equity. Judge Becerra's commitment inspires our mission to advocate for fair and compassionate legal systems. We are honored to stand beside justice champions like Judge Becerra as we continue to fight for systems that protect the most vulnerable.
March: Unity in Action and Advocacy
March brought both spiritual reflection and bold political advocacy. At Precinct 4's 3rd Annual Iftar, we shared more than a meal; we shared hope and unity as people of all backgrounds came together, celebrating faith, diversity, and our commitment to compassion. This gathering was a beacon of what community truly means in a world often divided.
Later that month, our advocacy team brought powerful testimony to Capitol Hill in Austin for the Safe Salon Act. This critical legislation equips salon professionals to recognize and respond to signs of domestic violence with the tools to identify and respond to domestic violence. With strong support from partners like TAP and TCFV, and the passionate voice of our own Raazia Nathani, the bill cleared the committee and is on its way to becoming law. Every step forward brings us closer to a safer tomorrow.
March 27: A Stand Against Hate
In a unanimous and decisive declaration, Harris County Commissioners passed a resolution recognizing the Holy Month of Ramadan and March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. This landmark resolution is a victory for religious freedom and a bold stance against hate and ignorance. It shows what's possible when advocacy is fearless and hearts are open. We celebrate this victory and recognize the tireless work of our Advocacy Director, Raazia Nathani, whose leadership helped bring this vital resolution to life.
April: Lifting Knowledge and Voices
In April, we deepened our commitment to community well-being by creating space for critical conversations around mental health. On April 27, our advocacy team hosted a meaningful Mental Health Student Panel at UT Austin, where students gathered to share stories, challenges, and perspectives around emotional wellness. Alongside raising awareness, the panel fostered trust and connection, helping students know who to reach out to when support is needed.
May: Bridging the Legal and Advocacy Worlds
On May 9, our annual Judges Luncheon brought legal leaders together to reflect on their sacred duty: to protect. With DA Sean Teare sharing his personal story and a dynamic discussion on legal abuse, we explored how courts can act as protectors, especially in cases of legal abuse. The event reignited our collective resolve. Every handshake, story, and insight is the root of real reform.
Looking Ahead: The Work Continues
2025 is halfway through, showing us what's possible when we dream boldly and act bravely. Every resolution passed, every voice raised, and every life touched is a victory for justice. But we are not done. We will keep rising with your support because justice isn't a moment. It's a movement. As we look ahead, we remain committed to protecting the vulnerable and amplifying every voice that dares to speak up.
Support us and donate to the cause. The future is ours to build.
