  • Mental Health Director

    Dr. Ketam Hamdan is a Harvard graduate who wears many hats. She is the development director at An-Nisa, as well as a licensed therapist, educator, and content creator. She specializes in trauma and brain health. She also trains other professionals on holistic development, with an emphasis on brain science. Her most venture includes biofeedback, a technique you can use to learn to control some of your body's functions, such as your heart rate and brain waves. During biofeedback, you're connected to electrical sensors that help you receive information about your body.

    Thahira Ahmed, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, she has more than fifteen years of experience in counseling couples, families and children. She enjoys helping adults, teenagers and children work through difficult relationship issues, heal from depression and anxiety, to cope with loss and grief, to recover from sexual or physical trauma and emotional abuse. She is experienced in trauma-focused treatment interventions and emotional regulation. Overall, helping people feel happier, more confident and better about themselves: as parents, as partners, and as professionals. Having raised her four children in the United States, she brings a wealth of experience and has helped parents work through difficult parenting issues, especially cultural and generational barriers between parents and youth.

    She is a Registered Play Therapist, as a trained play therapist she uses art, expressive therapy, trauma based play therapy, sand tray therapy (with adults) and filial therapy (with parents) in treating childhood trauma and parent-child relationships. She is an LPC-Supervisor, she provides training and supervision to Interns who are working on getting their State Licensure. She is also Licensed as a Distance Credentialed Counselor, an online counseling service that is accessible for individuals across Texas. Furthermore, she is Certified to provide therapy with focus on Islamic Psychotherapy paradigm, an approach which integrates Islamic faith with modern psychotherapy.

    Thahira Ahmed has been providing therapy to individuals and couples in the Greater Houston Community since 2003. She has volunteered her services to a non–profit organization, An-Nisa Hope Center for more than 10 years. Over the years, she saw an increase in the divorce rates and mental health issues in the Muslim community. She is compassionate about the emotional wellbeing of the community.

    Dr. Ateka Zaki is a psychiatrist in Richmond, Texas. She received her medical degree from Sind Medical College and has been in practice for more than 20 years.

    Imene Benslimane is a national certified counselor and licensed professional counselor-Associate who received her master in education in clinical mental health counseling. She enjoys helping women work around their circumstances by first educating them about their mental health issues and empowering them with tools to help them overcome their struggles. Her holistic therapeutic approach and cognitive and behavioral therapy tools will boost the confidence of her clients to move past their mental health issues including trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. She enjoys providing culturally sensitive individual and group counseling in both Arabic and English. She also enjoys writing mental health and well-being related articles to educate our community.

    Faisal Tai is a psychiatrist who is Board Certified by American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his pre-med at University of Houston, received his Doctor of Medicine from UMHS, and completed his Residency at University of Iowa. During his training, he was also the President of GME House Staff Council at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and introduced many programs to reduce physician burnout. Dr. Tai’s focus has been Schizophrenia, Mood Disorders, Personality disorder, Anxiety and OCD, Neuropsychiatry/Geriatric Psychiatry, Consult-Liaison Psychiatry, and Electroconvulsive Therapy. Dr. Tai currently is Medical Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at HCA Tomball Regional. He grew up in Houston and is glad to have returned to his community. He enjoys running, soccer, volleyball and golf.
